Lauren Bernazza, she/her

Birth + Postpartum Doula, Perinatal Yogi (RYT200 and RPYT), + Twin Educator

Hey y’all, I’m Lauren. I’m an Aquarius Sun with a Scorpio Moon and Rising which means I’m a swirly combination of ease, intuition, creativity, and passion which is a great combo for for birth work (and life!)

Movement, meditation, and staying hydrated keep me in balance to raise my two sets of spontaneous twins with my husband and partner, Tim. We met 20 years ago at a punk rock show in Athens while I was receiving my BFA in Textile Design at UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. Our identical twins Anthony and Rocco were born in 2013 and our fraternal twins Danny and Lulu were an even bigger surprise we welcomed in 2016. We live our life in Historic Roswell in a 1961 ranch house we’ve been slow and steady renovating into our dream humble home, along with our dog Pepper.

I love coffee, crafts, audiobooks, collecting tattoos, and ginger tea. I’ve been a vegetarian off and on since high school but officially on since 2010 and all my kids are too! I am always involved in a creative home project of some sort and love repurposing old things in new ways. I dream of being a master gardener and befriending crows as my hair grays. My favorite sound is birds chirping and my favorite smell is the warm heads of my kids after a deep sleep. Yoga has changed my life, but not until I went alcohol free in early 2020. I usually have a crystal in my pocket and barefoot is my preferred mode of existence. I can’t wait to learn more about YOU!

My Path to Birthwork

My professional life after college and before doula work was an 8 year span working for Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture. I started as an intern in the Public Art Program, moved to administration of their grant program for non-profit arts organizations, and eventually ran the Abernathy Arts Center, a community art school and professional gallery in Sandy Springs. I LOVE that my background in the arts helped to shape and support my creativity, problem solving, and empathy.

I entered birth work in 2017 after benefiting from amazing postpartum support with the birth of my second set of twins. It was a wildly different experience from my first postpartum time. I knew that supporting families through this transition was the work I was meant to do. I completed my birth doula training in 2017 and postpartum doula training in 2019. I’ve also had the honor to learn from intuitive and impactful educators under ongoing mentorship with Laura Interlandi and Erica Livingston of Birdsong Brooklyn for the past three years.

I deepened my anatomy knowledge and personal practice completing yoga teacher training under the guidance of Kim Saunders at Lift Yoga in 2020 and perinatal yoga teacher training in 2020-21 under Lauren Shields of Meraki Mama Collective. I’m so lucky to have these humans in my life and bring this knowledge into every birth I attend.

I completed Cross Certification and continuing education classes with Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings (BADT) in 2022, an organization that I wholeheartedly connect with because of their focus on inclusion in birth work and creating change from within the system. Most recently, I completed a Spinning Babies training in 2023 where we got to totally nerd out on all things anatomy - it was fantastic!

My Personal Experiences

My personal experiences in birthing, infant feeding, and mothering include vaginal delivery, high risk pregnancy, navigating the NICU with preemies, twin pregnancy, tongue tie revisions, exclusive pumping, formula feeding, extended breastfeeding, perinatal mood disorders, diastasis recti recovery and repair, and INCREDIBLE AMOUNTS OF JOY.

I think it’s really important to note that while my personal experiences navigating the world of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are originally what drew me to this work, my biggest joy is showing up for the experiences of my clients and advocating for their own journey into parenthood.

As my brood has continued to grow, I have found myself navigating a world of speech therapy, IEPs, and accommodations in public elementary school as well as dance recitals, music lessons, and other extra curricular like Chess Club and gymnastics. My life as an active parent in my community will only continue to inform me in my work.
