Courtney Busha-Lopez, she/her

Birth + Postpartum Doula, Lamaze Childbirth Educator

Hey friends! I’m Courtney -  I’m an empath with a long history of caregiving (who loves disco and crystals!), an Inner child explorer, moon enthusiast, and chronic over-sharer (no such thing as TMI with this girl).

I am an ENFP-T; HSP; Virgo Sun/Aquarius Rising/Cancer Moon. I very much live in that watery, emotional Cancer moon space and never miss an opportunity to cry. I love all things cozy, long walks in the forest, coffee dates, and dance parties!

My husband Blas is MY Doula! We’ve enjoyed music festivals, some traveling, and quality time with friends and family over our 10 years together! Blas has walked with me side by side during my journey to become and Doula; he helped me study for my Lamaze exam and lifted me up as an entrepreneur as my biggest cheerleader! We love cheesy, romantic date nights, movie nights, and seeing live music. Although we do not have children of our own yet - we love spending time with our nieces and nephews, and any chance we get to babysit other kiddos!

So nice to meet you, let’s hug!

Journey to Birth Work

I’ve treasured my previous roles as a nurturer through caring for the elderly and people with chronic illness. During my time studying to be a social worker, I was continually drawn into books and anecdotes about Doulas and birth work. I followed that universal breadcrumb trail and it led me directly to the community that needed my natural gifts most. Following my Doula training with DONA, I completed my Lamaze Childbirth Educator Certification, postpartum education, and trained as a home birth assistant.

I have been in birth work for 8 years now. I love growing my knowledge and am currently focusing my sights/goals to becoming a Lactation Consultant. I look forward to bringing that into our practice! One day I hope to become a Certified Professional Midwife. Teaching my personally curated childbirth education classes and sharing hands-on skills with our families brings me so much joy! I love an opportunity to share my passion with others through evidence-based and intuitively guided childbirth education.

Discovering birth work and becoming a Doula has allowed me to become my truest self, and navigate to the deepest spaces of my heart. It is truly the most rewarding thing in life to do what you love, and love what you do.

Experience in the Birth Space

Serving as a witness to the sacred and most raw experience as childbirth + postpartum healing has shaped my perspective of life and humanity. I have been in spaces that are spiritual + divinely guided; feeling the presence of a higher power that the birther calls upon to bring their baby earthside - this has kept my spirit fed and sustaining in birth work. I have been in spaces that are rough and raw, which keeps me strong as a supporter/space holder. Some spaces that came with non-consensual acts, aggression and mistreatment of the birther - which has kept me as a passionate advocate for clear consent and bodily autonomy. I have been in spaces of unexpected emergency and challenging outcomes - this has kept me leaning hard on my community for healing, keeping a prayerful heart, and the belief that birth is a space is a place of real unknown - which we are forced to accept. My admiration for people giving birth is boundless.

But in all - each of my experiences have only solidified that this work is my ultimate calling in this life, and all others to come. The gratitude I have for each of the families that have chosen me to share their space, is deeper than words can ever express.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my passion! Let’s share something special together!
